Listed below are some suggested itineraries that have been enjoyed
by enjoyed by many previous freedom walkers. These may assist you in
planning an experience that will allow you to get the most out of
your time in the Hollyford Valley.
Please note that these are suggested itineraries and are dependent
on the availability of the bus, jet boat and aeroplane on the
appropriate days.

Fly In /Walk Out (4-5 Days)
Day One:
Fly into Martins Bay by chartered aeroplane from Milford Sound or the Hollyford Air
Strip. Walk from Martins Bay Lodge to the Martins Bay DOC Hut and
spend the day at Long Reef Seal Colony.
Day Two:
Walk from Martins Bay Hut to Hokuri Hut.
Day Three:
Walk from Hokuri Hut to either Demon Hut or McKerrow Island Hut.
Day Four:
Walk to Lake Alabaster Hut Day Five: Walk Out to the
Hollyford Road End.
Things to Consider:
-
If traveling by aeroplane from the Hollyford Air Strip it is
possible to leave a vehicle at the road end. You will then be
reunited with your car when you walk out. The alternative is to
coach into Milford to meet your flight, and coach out from the road
end at the other end.
-
If traveling by aeroplane from Milford Sound into Martins Bay it is
probably easiest to get to Milford Sound with a Tracknet Coach (see
contacts) and then again Tracknet Coach at the Hollyford Road
End.
-
To add Big Bay to the itinerary (for fit, experienced trampers only)
- Add 2 days.
