Depart Queenstown and travel alongside the beautiful Lake Wakatipu and on to Te Anau. Those starting in Te Anau join the trip and after a brief comfort stop, depart for the Hollyford Valley. Travel alongside Lake Te Anau and through the majestic Eglinton Valley to the start of the track in the Hollyford Valley, visiting Gunn's Camp museum on the way. Then re-trace the footsteps of the original Maori and early explorers along the Hollyford River to Pyke River Lodge. Enjoy interesting historical tales and interpretation of the forest and bird life as the track undulates gently through native beech forest and be-side tumbling waterfalls.
Begin your day with a short walk to Lake Alabaster and learn of the history and geology of the area in the midst of stunning surroundings. Cross Fiordland's longest swing bridge (optional) and then enjoy a wilderness jet boat journey down the Hollyford River and across Lake McKerrow to the historic site of Jamestown, the intended capital of the South Island in the late 19th century. Walk through the ancient Podocarp forest with giant Rimu, Totara and Kahikatea trees wrapped in massive Rata vines before visiting the New Zealand Fur Seal colony at Long Reef on the wild West Coast where you may see the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin.
Travel by jet boat to Martins Bay Spit and explore this eight kilometre landmark and its lagoon, sand dunes and coast. Learn about the Maori history as well as plant, bird and sea life of this remote area. Return to Martins Bay Lodge for lunch and bid farewell to your lodge hosts as you board your aircraft for a scenic flight to the breath-taking Milford Sound, before boarding your shuttle transport for your return journey to Te Anau or Queenstown.
Pre-departure briefings provide an opportunity to meet the other guests in your group and will cover the details you will need to know for your departure the following day such as what to expect over your three days, what to bring, what’s provided, itinerary breakdown and departure pick-up schedule. This is also the opportunity to pick up and make use of our packs and wet weather jackets if required, ask any questions you may have, and to purchase anything you might have forgotten or overseen. Pre-departure briefings are conducted the night before your departure date in Queenstown and Te Anau.
Pre-departure briefings in Queenstown are held at 5:30pm at ‘The Station’, ground floor of ‘The Station’ building, Duke Street entrance, Queenstown - look for the Hollyford Track briefing signage.
Pre-departure briefings in Te Anau are held at 5:30pm at the Luxmore Hotel, Main Street, Te Anau - ask at the front desk.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you arrange personal travel/medical insurance.
In many emergency cases in New Zealand, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) will cover the costs related to personal injury if incurred whilst in New Zealand. Please note however, that we highly recommend all walkers have personal travel/medical insurance while on Hollyford Track as we can not guarantee that ACC will cover any cost associated with injury or evacuation. If injury or evacuation is not covered by ACC you will need personal travel/medical insurance to cover any associated costs which may for example include, but not be limited to, helicopter, medical, hospital, accommodation and flight rescheduling/cancellation costs. If an emergency is not covered by ACC and you do not have personal travel/medical insurance any associated costs will be passed on directly to you.
We also recommend travel/medical insurance to guard against loss of fares paid caused by any eventuality necessitating cancellation of a trip.
